My 10 Favorite 2025 VMA Looks

The MTV Video Music Awards, or better known as the VMAs, were just held about a week ago on September 7th, but still some of the red carpet looks have been heavy on my mind. The VMA red carpets are infamous for bringing together celebrities with eccentric styles, like Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Lil’ Kim, and Madonna, among several others. This year however, some ‘newer’ faces are starting to be some of my favorite fashion icons. The following are my 10 favorite looks of the night:

Doja Cat, Balmain

In the last few years, Doja Cat has become someone I always keep an eye on for red carpets. She seems to always bring something interesting to the table, like in this Balmain mini. Drawing inspiration from bold ‘80s into early ‘90s colors, silhouettes, and makeup, I feel like this is a quintessential VMAs look – it’s fun and captivating fashion.

Megan of KATSEYE, Dolce & Gabbana

Though part of a collective, Megan’s Dolce & Gabbana look stood out to me the most out of the group. The cohesiveness of Megan’s colorful look is what instantly drew my eye to her, matching her already highlighted pink hair to every aspect of what she had on. From her pink hair and the pink silk, down to the mauve fur – Megan definitely set herself apart from the rest of the group, bringing glam and fun together!

Daniela of KATSEYE, Dolce & Gabbana

Another KATSEYE member in Dolce & Gabbana, Daniela, also stood. Daniela’s mini dress embellished with beading and diamonds along with her natural waves made her glow! This was so flattering on her, I truly feel like this dress and how it was styled helped define and solidify her bold, grungey, and glamorous style.

Latto, Versace

Someone else who was glowing at the VMAs was Latto in a metallic gold vintage Versace Fall-Winter ‘94 gown! The draping of this gown, combined with how the strap was styled, along with her hair and makeup personalize this runway look to her specific style. This personalization is what caught my eye the most, it remained true to the original piece while also catering to Latto’s personal style.

Zara Larsson, Sorcha O'Raghallaigh

Zara Larsson’s Sorcha O’Raghallaigh sheer mini dress is the embodiment of 2000s carpet styles. It calls upon the slip-dress style silhouette popular during the time, with colorful, ornate details which were also prominent during the 2000s.

Tyla, Chanel

Tyla also appeared to have a unique modification to a vintage runway look from Chanel’s Spring-Summer ‘93 collection. Originally a corset top, Tyla and her team decided to reimagine it as a mini dress! This small change along with the layered gold accessories brighten an otherwise typically simple and minimalistic collection.

Lara of KATSEYE, Dolce & Gabbana

Next up is my last KATSEYE look (I promise), Lara’s corset Dolce & Gabbana dress! Lara is someone else whose appearances I’ve been paying close attention to, especially because I love the small details included in her styling. The attention to detail typically found in her style really stands out, between the lace detailing and trim, to the embellished corset boning, the incorporation of her Indian culture in her accessories (like her maang tikka), and even her matching henna with her sister Rhea, Lara’s attention to detail sets her apart from the rest of the group.

Sabrina Carpenter, Valentino

Sabrina Carpenter’s red lace Valentino gown was an unexpected look. However, with the release of her “Tears” music video and performance this same night it made complete sense; they’re reminiscent of classic films like The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s ‘campiness’ and drama, with the red sequins and purple fur!

Sombr, Valentino

A menswear look that stood out on the carpet was Sombr’s Valentino suit! The floral embroidery and tailored flared pants add a unique flare to an otherwise simple look.

Ariana Grande, Fendi

Finally, Ariana Grande’s polka-dot Fendi gown. Polka-dots have been everywhere this year, and it only made sense for Ariana Grande to wear a gown full of them! Though not completely decked-out in pink, this gown is still a reminder we’ll see her as Glinda again this year. This gown was so cute and simple, acting as part of the natural progression of her personal style in recent years.
